United Democratic Club’s Next Chapter

Dear friends,

As my time as President comes to a close I want to take a moment to thank you and all of our members for your contributions to the United Democratic Club over these last two years. I stepped into this role days after San Francisco began shelter-in-place for a novel coronavirus we knew little about. The last two years have been wild, to say the least, but through it all, you continued to adapt, grow, and show up every day to fight for democracy and for our Democratic values.

Together we hosted more than 125 events including phone and text banks, community cleanups, and forums and panels on topics including police reform, housing and the racial wealth gap in San Francisco, and the impacts of COVID-19 on some of our most vulnerable communities. We launched a new event series where we raise money for philanthropic partners while putting our electeds in the hot seat and asking them some spicy questions and serving them even spicier foods, and we came together to organize toy drives and days of service. Through these events, we raised nearly $4,000 for organizations like Meals on Wheels, Generation Citizen, and Richmond Area Multi-Services Inc.

United Democratic Club members wrote letters, made calls, and opened their wallets for Democrats across the country as we fought to bring effective Democratic leadership back to offices nationally. The strength and resilience shown by this group of caring, compassionate advocates who continued to fight each day through all of the challenges of the last two years are proof that we will continue to persevere through the challenges we currently face and the challenges to come.

Thank you to the folks who served on United Democratic Club’s Executive Board with me these last two years; without them we would not have accomplished much of what we did. Thank you to all of our board members and committee members who brought visions to life and to our elected leaders who continue to support our club. And thank you to the friends and mentors who shared wisdom and encouragement along the way.

Most importantly, thank you for continuing to do the work and for being a member of the United Democratic Club. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and it is now time to pass the torch to my friend and colleague, Bobak Esfandiari. I look forward to supporting him and the newly elected leaders of our club as we continue to move forward.

With gratitude,

Kayleigh
